Data Paths team members and participating teachers presented two sessions: Arguing from Evidence with Data Routines, a session for middle grades science teachers, coaches and leaders, and Exploring carbon chemistry and climate change through hands-on labs and data investigations, a session for high school chemistry and environmental science teachers, at the MAST [Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers] Conference—The Importance of Sensemaking in Science—in Marlborough Massachusetts. The Data Paths project also hosted an exhibition table to share upcoming professional learning opportunities and information about the project and its goals and resources.

ATMNE Conference

October, 2025

A Data Paths team member co-presented the session, Bringing Data Science to Life in Your Middle Grades Mathematics Classroom, with a collaborating teacher at the ATMNE [Association of Teachers of Mathematics in New England] Conference—Mathematics Without Limits—in Marlborough Massachusetts. Session participants engaged in two project activities, Data Jigsaw and Data Card Sort Routine, which are designed to support students in representing, analyzing, and communicating about data. Participants also heard from an experienced teacher about how the routines can be used with students and left with ready-to-use resources.

Data Science Education Conference

February, 2025

Data Paths team members presented a session, “Supporting Data Science for All through Integration Into Mainstream Subjects in Grades PreK-12,” at the Data Science Education K-12: Research to Practice Conference in Austin, TX.  We discussed:

  • Development of an educator guide that identifies how data learning objectives for grades preK-12 align with and support disciplinary standards in mathematics, science, and other subjects.
  • Work to develop new tools and curriculum materials that integrate data science into preK learning, middle-school mathematics, and high-school biology—as well as data science integration challenges and promising approaches.

Past Webinars

We held two webinars with data scientists this spring. Each webinar featured two data scientists, who shared about their current work, experiences, and skills with data. The sessions featured short presentations by each speaker, followed by a moderated discussion and time for Q & A.
